Open Financial eXchange, or .ofx format is extension used by online banking software, such Microsoft Money. File extension OFX is a standard for exchanging and downloading financial information into financal packages. It is currently used as a format for downloading bank statements into Microsoft Money and Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting.

File Extension OFX introduced in 1997 and it replace Open Financial Connectivity (.OFC) format used by Microsoft Money. It's standardized by Intuit, Microsoft, and CheckFree.


What programs can open the File extension OFX ? There are several program can handle the .ofx file: In Windows operating system there are GnuCash, Intuit Quicken, Microsoft Money, Reilly Technologies Moneydance, and Sage Accpac; in Macintosh there are Apple Numbers, GnuCash, Intuit Quicken, and Reilly Technologies Moneydance; and in Linux there are GnuCash, KMyMoney, and Reilly Technologies Moneydance.

  2. I thought this wasn't available for Linux. I guess I was wrong. This is great for companies. They can use this to ease their task on accounting and all those that involve money. Thanks for this great post. Very informative!
