Nokia Unveils the Next Version of Symbian OS

Written By Kaisar Woll on 2009/12/05 | Saturday, December 05, 2009

Nokia gave a preview of the next version of Symbian OS on his event Capital Market. The existing system in its Touch Panel Control (S60 Touch) is not really competitive with iPhone OS and Android, and in a lesser degree, Windows Mobile.

The next version presented could give new impetus to the Finnish manufacturer of smartphones. The important points to remember in this presentation.

  1. Nokia should focus on the smartphone screen with capacitive and multitouch.
  2. The scrolling will be improved. It should go from 15FPS to 60FPS. The fluid should be at the rendezvous.
  3. The user experience in navigating the Internet will be improved
  4. The interface will be considerably simplified. It would take 2 clicks to perform an action, or the current version called 8.

This is promising, expect to see really what happens on a production machine.

  21. Well, I have to admit that I was pretty really sceptical when I first heard about this system but after a year of use, I'm definitely checking out the next version of Symbian OS.

I can't imagine how the 60 fps scrolling and a 2 click interface will work but I'm hyped.

Please post any info on the release date. Huge thanks.

  24. I believe this would really be good. I anticipate its coming. I know Nokia will bounce back from its previous glitches like S60 Touch. What I really loved about Nokia is it is very user-friendly despite the fact that the creation of its system and design is very complicated.

  27. Superb...Nokia demoed a new smarter version of Symbian OS for Nokia devices which performed at up to three times quicke. The Symbian OS will get a boost as the fames per second is increased from 15fps up to 60fps. This makes for a much slicker experience with better scrolling around the homescreen, menu and apps.
