Berbahagialah warga Jakarta. PT Telkom Divre II akan menjadikan Jakarta sebagai cyber city dengan target sampai akhir tahun 2008 ini. Telkom akan memasang hotspot internet broadband di berbagai tempat strategis di Jakarta, seperti mal, hotel, kafe, museum, gedung perkantoran dan taman kota.Pembangunan hotspot yang pertama sudah dilakukan dengan memilih lokasi di Monumen Nasional (Monas), yang juga disebut kilometer nol dalam skema penyebaran titik-titik hotspot.
Nantinya, cukup dengan perangkat portabel yang mempunyai fasilitas koneksi internet nirkabel (wireless) seperti komputer jinjing atau ponsel pintar, kita sudah dapat memperoleh akses internet dengan kecepatan sampai 1 mbs.
Hal ini patut disambut gembira karena dengan tersedianya fasilitas internet murah dan cepat, tentu perkembangan pemakai internet di Indonesia akan tumbuh pesat. Mudah-mudahan manfaat internet yang positif dapat dirasakan oleh masyarakat banyak, sementara ekses negatifnya dapat diminimalisir.
